The UBA Foundation arm of the United Bank for Africa has announced the commencement of the 2021 Foundation National essay competition for senior secondary school students in SS1 to SS3. This article contains information on the application portal, guidelines, eligibility, prize, and how to apply.

UBA Foundation National Essay Competition

The UBA Foundation National Essay Competition is in its 11th year and the National Essay Competition, targeted at senior secondary students in Nigeria is organized annually, as part of UBA Foundation’s education initiative which is aimed at promoting the reading culture and encouraging healthy and intellectual competition amongst secondary school students in Nigeria and across Africa.

The UBA Foundation National Essay Competition Requirements/Eligibility.

  • Be a Secondary School Student
  •  Must submit a handwritten essay (750 words MAX)
  •  Must submit a passport photograph
  •  Must submit a copy of a birth certificate, National ID or passport

The UBA Foundation National Essay Competition Prizes.

  • 1st prize winner: N3,000,000 in education grant to any African University
  • 2nd prize winner: N2,500,000 in education grant to any African University
  • 3rd prize winner: N2,000,000 in education grant to any African University

The UBA Foundation National Essay Competition Selection Process

Entries received for the competition will be reviewed by a distinguished panel of judges made up of professors from reputable Nigerian Universities, who will then shortlist 12 essays for further assessement. Following this, a second round of competition will involve the 12 finalists who will write a second supervised essay from which three best essays will be selected as the overall winners from the 12 finalists emerged from the first round of the competition.

How to Apply and Application Guidelines

Guidelines:

  • Applicants must attach photocopies of their original birth certificates or photocopies of intentional passport data page.
  • Applicants must be senior secondary school students living in Nigeria.
  • Applicants should send in handwritten essay entries Of not more than 750 words on the competition topic.
  • Applicants must submit their complete contact information (school name and address residential address, phone number and email address).
  • The educational grant is only applicable to students who intend to study in an African university.
  • The decision of the judges is final LATE ENTRIES will not be accepted

How to Apply

Applicant must submit their completed contact information (Name, Age, School, Address of school, Telephone Number, Residential Address and Email Address). Applicants must attach photocopies of their original birth certificates or international passport data page.
